So good to be HOME

So I know this is about my journey of crafting through college, but my first day with this new blog and I'm sitting at home in my parents' room. Who could blame me though?? It's a lot more comfortable than dorm life, and I purposely picked UC Davis because it's only twenty minutes from my home in Sacramento.

I'm hoping to get a chance to go to some craft stores, which is a rarity for me these days (the city of Davis has absolutely zero, so if you own a craft store and are looking for a good location, the people of Davis are desperate).

I'm also hoping to get in some baking time while I'm here. My first week at college, my roommate (who is also very crafty :)) and I decided to bake cupcakes for the people in our dorm. A very nice gesture, however it was a failed attempt. First of all, there is no kitchen in our dorm, so we had to go find one in another hall, which meant going back and forth when we forgot things and carrying more stuff than we could handle. Once we got there, we tried to work together in a cramped kitchen that couldn't have been bigger than most people's closets. The icing on top of our burnt cupcakes: the pan didn't fit in the tiny oven so the door was ajar the entire baking time. We didn't have a timer either, so the cupcakes turned out burnt yet undercooked. Delicious, as you can probably imagine. Yummier yet, there was no way we were ever going to even attempt to make icing from scratch so we used the stuff from the can, a sin in my book. But there's a happy ending to this sad baking story: college kids are greedy cupcake monsters and people ate them up within a day, no complaints.

Don't get me wrong though! I do love Davis, almost as much as I love Sacramento. I suggest that if you're ever in Yolo County, you stop by for some good, old-fashioned, small town fun!
